"The First Racket and the Unseen Divide"
From the disciplined world of competitive badminton, where I spent countless hours perfecting my game alongside my younger sister, Kyra, I learned invaluable lessons in resilience, discipline, and the sheer joy of achievement. My life, filled with opportunities for growth and development, felt miles away from the realities I observed during visits to my home country, India. I saw children my own age, brimming with potential, yet denied even the most basic opportunities – children who couldn't play, couldn't learn, simply because of their circumstances. This stark contrast ignited a profound sense of empathy and a burning question: how many talents are lost, how many dreams are deferred, simply due to a lack of access?
This question, amplified by my global perspective gained from studying in Singapore, propelled me and my family to act. We founded Triti Foundation—meaning "Moment in Time" in Sanskrit—driven by the philosophy of "Acta non verba": deeds, not words. I truly believe that every child deserves the chance to explore their potential, and that sports, particularly badminton, offers a unique pathway to holistic development, fostering confidence, teamwork, and perseverance.
I wrote The First Racket and the Unseen Divide to share this journey. It’s a personal account of navigating the complexities of launching a non-profit from afar, balancing my academic life with the immense responsibility of bringing tangible change. It’s a story of overcoming bureaucratic hurdles, challenging deeply ingrained societal norms, and learning profound lessons about leadership and empathy along the way. Most importantly, it’s a dedication to the incredible children whose lives we’ve touched. Their courage, their dreams, and their triumphs are the heart of this book.
My hope is that this book serves as more than just a narrative; I want it to be a call to action. By sharing the stories of individuals like Kajol, Ashish, and even Chandani, I aim to illuminate both the boundless potential that exists within underprivileged communities and the persistent barriers that still need to be broken. I want to inspire readers to recognize their own capacity for impact, encouraging them to seize their "moment in time" to contribute to a more equitable world. Every small act of support, every shared story, contributes to building a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
"The First Racket and the Unseen Divide"
The First Racket and the Unseen Divide is the inspiring debut memoir by 17-year-old Tvisha, the founder of Triti Foundation. This book offers an intimate look into Tvisha's unique journey, bridging her personal passion for badminton with her unwavering commitment to social change in India.
The narrative traces Tvisha's early life as a competitive badminton player, detailing the invaluable life lessons learned on the court. It then shifts to the profound realization of the vast "unseen divide" – the stark inequality in access to sports and opportunities for underprivileged children in her home country. This awakening fuels the creation of Triti Foundation and its flagship initiative, "Khoj for Tomorrow."
Through compelling first-person accounts, the book details the process of building an NGO from scratch, often managed remotely from Singapore. It highlights the challenges of navigating legal complexities, securing crucial partnerships with institutions like The Happy School Too, and identifying talented young athletes. Readers will be introduced to the lives of the first eight beneficiaries, including Kajol and Ashish, whose stories exemplify the transformative power of the program. The book also candidly addresses the heart-wrenching realities of societal and parental barriers, as illustrated by the story of Chandani, offering valuable insights into the complexities of social work.
Ultimately, The First Racket and the Unseen Divide is a powerful testament to the philosophy of "Acta non verba"—deeds, not words. It's a call for collective action, demonstrating how one young individual, driven by empathy and perseverance, can ignite a movement to empower a generation. The book invites readers to understand the profound impact of providing opportunities, fostering holistic development, and building a more inclusive future, one moment, one shuttlecock, one life at a time.
